As part of Tatton Park Biennial and Asia Triennial Manchester 08, Chinese Arts Centre hosts Hong Kong comic animation artist Kongkee. Responding to Tatton Park Biennial's theme of Botanical collections, Kongkee will create new animations will explore the migration and diversity of people and plants. During his residency at Chinese Arts Centre, Kongkee will be working with Manchester's elderly Chinese community inviting them to share their experiences of migration and dislocation. Through workshops and discussions Kongkee will gather their stories to create a an animation reflecting their journeys to be shown at Tatton Park.
Born in 1977, Kongkee works in comic as well as video imaging in Hong Kong. A found member of creative group '29s' from 2003, which keep encouraging artists from different professional to cross over thought independence publishing. He has published several comics including Imperfect Shoes and Hijacking and posts the online comic Rice-gas. His video Name of Wu Mei received a Special Mention by ifva Short Film Festival 2005 and was selected by Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibition 2005. In 2007, he used the cartoons sticker to protest the commercial booming from train broadcast system. A new collection of his comics was published in April 2008.
Tatton Park Biennial 2008 is the inauguration of a new contemporary art event for the UK.
